1. How does laser work:

Specially selected wavelengths of light (photo) penetrate the skin, reaching selective chormophores (hemaglobin, melanin or tattoo ink) with minimal skin absorption. The absorbed light is transformed into heat, and the target cells are subsequently destroyed by the high temperature.

2. How is AFT different from IPL:

No excess light is wasted thereby delivering more efficient, therapeutic energy. Treatments are optimized and complications are minimized.

3. Is laser safe:

The AFT parameters are specially designed to match your skin type and hair type, assuring exceptionally exact and gentle treatments. Clinical trials have documented the safety and effectiveness of AFT therapy.

4. Does laser hurt:

While pain tolerance is individual, most people tolerate AFT pulsed light treatment well, and describe the sensation as a rubber band snap to the skin. No anaesthesia is needed although topical anaesthetics can be applied for more sensitive areas.

5. How long does an AFT pulsed light treatment for permanent hair reduction take:

AFT pulsed light treats numerous hair follicles at the same time, and as a result, can cover relatively large areas at high speed. The exact amount of time required depends upon the size of the area being treated. For example, the underarm usually takes 5 minutes while the back or legs may require 45 minutes.

6. How many treatments for permanent hair reduction are necessary:

All hair follicles go through “sleep” phases and periods of growth. While all hair follicles are destroyed during an AFT treatment, only hair follicles in the growth phase are permanently destroyed. For this reason, treatment must be repeated until all of the unwanted hair follicles have passed through the growth phase. On average, 5 to 8 treatments are needed at intervals of 5 to 6 weeks.

7. Who can be treated:

Men, women and children of all skin colours have been successfully treated. For best results, AFT pulsed light hair removal treatments are customized according to skin colour, hair texture and body site.

8. What are benign vascular and pigmented lesions:

Benign vascular lesions, red in colour, are caused by an abnormal clustering of blood vessels. Pigmented lesions (nevi) are clusters of melanin in the skin and brown in colour. While some lesions may fade, others become more pronounced over time.
